Five Day Challenge – Day Five

The Five Day Challenge is

ONE YEAR AGO

 One year ago we were in San Gimignano in Tuscany in north-central Italy.  This is a small walled medieval hill town known at the Town of Fine Towers it is famous for its medieval architecture and for the preservation of about a dozen of its tower houses.

The town is immediately recognisable  as it sits on a hilltop and the towers on the skyline make it visible for miles around

We spent several happy days wandering around this lovely town and admiring the architecture much to the delight of the Architect.

And once again special thanks to Cat at Catterel for nominating me.  Now I nominate Granny at Granny1947.  Granny lives in South Africa, a place I have never visited, but I love to read Granny’s posts to learn a little about the country.

Five Day Challenge – Day 4

The Five Day Challenge is

An eight year old has her birthday party at Great Granddad’s.

Rachel is 8 and Grandad is almost 100 years old.  Imagine the excitement of having her birthday party at his house. Twelve little girls, Rachel’s parents and one grandmother, a great uncle and us.

At times the noise reached a pitch that just about drove us out of the house but then the lady with the birds and animals arrived.

  

All the children loved the fact that they were allowed to hold the bunnies, the guinea pigs and the chickens.  Granddad, who had been a farmer for many years, delighted in seeing the animals, holding a chicken and seeing the delight on the children’s faces.

A day to remember.

A SWEET TREAT FOR THE ARCHITECT

I had lunch yesterday with two friends, leaving the Architect to fend for himself.  Well of course, he is perfectly capable of doing so.

It was a lovely lunch in a newly opened restaurant in town.  The owner is Louis Sergeant a French-trained Chef de Pâtisserie born in Lille, Northern France.  So aside from delicious savoury dishes there is an array of sweets to satisfy the most sweet-toothed among us.

I had the Caesar Salad which was perfect while my two companions each settled for the tomato Tarte Tatin.   They both said how much they enjoyed it.

Then on the way out of the restaurant I stopped to look at the goodies on display.  There were so many to choose from but I settled on the chocolate mousse with salted caramel.  I can vouch for the fact that it was delicious as my generous friend agreed to share it with me.

The Architect’s New Toy

When we were in Lake Como last year staying with friends, we espied a small ‘thing’ running around a neighbour’s garden.  After asking questions of our hosts we determined that it was a robot lawn mower.

Once we returned home, and the grass was beginning to sprout in our new garden, the Architect set about finding where one of these machines could be purchased close to home.

We found a stockist but unfortunately, they had never sold nor installed one of them and so after purchasing our new friend “COMO” we became the guinea pigs for the dealer.  And it took some re-jigging of wires, choosing another part of the garden for it to be ‘home’ before everyone, including the Architect, was happy with our latest purchase.

I wonder what he will buy next.

My apologies to George Cooper for changing October to June because I live in the southern hemisphere and it’s autumn/fall here now.
