In a recent post, my blogging friend Val Erde graciously gave us permission to use this fabulous painting as inspiration for a work of art of our own. This is the challenge she set us – “It can be drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, knitting, crochet, animation, digital artwork, poetry, dialogue, short story, anything creative that you like, really!”
Well I can’t paint, can’t draw or sculpt, knit, crochet, produce animation or digital artwork and my photography is the point and shoot variety, so it has to be an attempt at poetry.
As soon as I saw this painting, I saw a woman evolving and becoming. So much in this painting reminded me of “I am Becoming the Woman I’ve Wanted” by Jayne Relaford Brown.
So here is my attempt at writing poetry. It is entitled ‘This Woman I am Becoming”
This woman I am becoming
Memories flowing through me
Making me who I am
Warm thoughts to banish cold nights
And sunshine to dry the tears. This woman I am becoming
Is learning patience
Learning grace
And learning that love is enough.I am enjoying this woman I am becoming
She knows where she is going
And where she belongs
She has her place in the world.
This is my first real attempt at writing poetry. In the past I have written rhyming poems to celebrate a wedding, visit to friends or other such but they really have been doggerel. I leave it up to you to decide whether I should go back to writing doggerel.
Thank you Val for the use of this beautiful painting and thank you for setting the challenge. I have enjoyed it.
What a beautiful poem…you really should do ore of it! It fits Val’s picture perfectly!

Thanks Chris. It was a bit scary putting myself out there. Quite different to just writing my blogs.
I really appreciate the comment.

Thank you for reading and thanks for the comment.. As I keep saying it’s quite scary (for me anyway) to put myself out in a poem. Writing a blog is so different.
I shall take time to look at your poems.

I found that book at my local library, and need to get busy reading it. Thanks for sharing it. I like your poem. Keep writing!

I am sure you will enjoy reading the book. When that is finished see if you can get hold of a copy of “If I Had MY Life to Live Over”. You are a long way from that but these women really have written words of wisdom. And they inspire me.
Thanks for the comment. I shall explore more poetry writing now that I have started. 🙂

It might be a while for others to show right now as I’m shortly going to be taking a break – I’m very tired again and need a rest – but I’ve some scheduled posts coming up and I’m sure other people will take part in the challenge. It’s not got any deadline so you might be watching for a long time. 🙂
In the meantime – write some more poetry. You’ve a blog you can share it in or if you feel delicate about people seeing it you can always put it into a paper journal instead. There are some lovely black paper art journals out there that can be used for poetry. I’ve lots of mine in things like that.

That’s even more remarkable. I asked because when I seen your blog stats and discovered you’ve been blogging since March I thought this was the case. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. Do you have two blogs? Because when I clicked your name it took me to Blogger.

Hello again Harnew. No I only have one blog. Don’t remember ever starting another but hey, there are loads of Judith Baxter’s out there. There is even one in the suburb in which I used to live. She keeps writing to the paper and I keep being stopped by people who want to comment on what she has written thinking it is me.

Very nice. In fact, I’ll point my auntie to it, she lost her husband a year and a half ago, she’s almost your neighbour too. I often think of her when I read your blog.

Thank you for the comment. It takes time to come to the point when you can consider the possibility of going on alone without your husband. But most of us get there eventually. Do tell her not to rush this and just to move at her own pace. She will know what that is. I have written several ezine articles on this subject. If you click on the ezine logo on the blog you will be taken to these articles. They might just help your auntie. 🙂
